2012 was a bit of a breakthrough year for
Miles Kane. Even after appearing on that
Last of the Shadow Puppets album with Alex Turner and releasing a debut solo album, he was only a sweetheart to many indie kids. However, his second album
Don't Forget Who You Are is harder and not as innocent and naive as the first. The tunes have also matured in quality. Compare his new single
Taking Over to
Don't Forget Who You Are and
Give Up and you have something else. Slower pace, not as much noise, but honestly, the track is just the best single on the album. Less is more in this situation and Kane has a real matured sound, with this song in particular, sounding like it could be an indie-rock classic. The man from The Wirral can only go up from here.
Rating: 9/10
