It has been over 2 years since Sheffield rockers Arctic Monkeys last made an album, so with such a long time away compared to their other album releases, we were expecting something special from AM - and we aren't disappointed.
We have already been treated with 3 of the 12 tracks already: Do I Wanna Know?, R U Mine? and Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? But the real question is, what is the rest of the album like?
Well it starts with two of the aforementioned singles Do I Wanna Know? and R U Mine? which are both brilliant in their own way. On the former, Jamie Cook lets off a riff so strong and addictive, that at some points he outclasses eccentric frontman Alex Turner who makes this track swagger with a pelvic thrust. The falsettos on this are also top from by drummer Matt Helders and guitarist Nick O'Malley who are also known as "The Space Choirboys". Then there is the former, the oldest song on the album. R U Mine? is a heavy three minutes of falsettos, heavy bass guitars and some great solos, making it a song that can be considered an anthem.
Then comes the unknown. Josh Homme features in track One For The Road which mixes hip-hop beats with rock as Alex Turner even tries what seems like a rockstar's version of rapping: "So we all go back to yours and you're sitting talking to me on the floor/There's no need to show me round baby, I feel like I've been here before" as the words roll off his tongue so fluently and seductively. Turner continues this attitude on arguably the best track on the album Arabella. With its Black Sabbath influences and insane guitar solo for a band who are described as indie rock, this is like no other Monkeys' track that we know about. Riff heavy and mixed with some slow R'n'B, this is something else. I Want It All sounded slightly boring at first listen, but once it creeps up on you it becomes a proper live tune. That intro reeks proper rock and the falsettos are most effective here. Plus, it references The Rolling Stones! WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE? ["Leave me listening to the Stones/2000 Light Years From Home"]. This is then followed by a screeching and swooning guitar solo that hits the spot.
The album starts to slow it down from here on. For someone that loves anthems, you will find the second half maybe a let-down, but the quality hardly drops for the rest of the album. No. 1 Party Anthem and Mad Sounds both take the tempo down a notch with No. 1 Party Anthem sounding like a Lennon piano song and Mad Sounds is a stripped-back breather, likely to played after fast songs in live performances. For the lack of instruments used, it works very well and doesn't fall into the trap of becoming a "filler" song. Fireside is probably the weakest track on the album, but that is like saying who is the worst Harlem Globetrotter. Worst of a very good bunch. It's disco-fueled sound brings something pretty fun about it, but it can be messy at parts. Track 9 is familiar to many as recent single Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? which flows with R'n'B whilst the backing falsettos yet again appear and bring a lot to the song as Turner sings "Now it's three in the morning and I'm trying to change your mind/Left you multiple missed calls and to my message you replied". This funky track is followed by the hip-moving Snap Out Of It and slow-moving Homme collaboration Knee Socks, both not the strongest on the album, but yet again, put them on a different album and they are above average tracks. AM finishes with poem-turned-song I Wanna Be Yours, a poem by John Cooper Clarke which Turner and co made into a song. Alex hits every line with precision and brilliance with lines like "I wanna be your Ford Cortina/I'll never rust". It's a perfect way to finish an album of such hype, and although it may have taken a few listens to absolutely love this album, it is now definitely the most addictive album I have heard in a while.
It's strange to think that not even a decade ago, Arctic Monkeys had just broke the music scene and now they have earned their place as not only one of the best British bands of all time, but best bands ever. They can only get stronger from here and their fifth and very LA-based album has much to thank for this.
Best Tracks: Arabella, One For the Road, Do I Wanna Know?

2 Chainz feat. Pharrell Williams-Feds Watching
One thing about 2 Chainz is that his own songs never seem to be as good as his collaborations and this continues in his new song Feds Watching. For a song that has lyrics like "Grams to Grammys, two guns Yosemite/Niggas put their glock on your ass" it's a very timid beat, but the lyrics are also pretty poor in some areas: "And I'm known to kick it like the captain of a soccer team". Pharrell pops up at the start as he does backing vocals, but this is nothing spectacular. After a couple of listens it could grow on you, but not much. Feds Watching will be a letdown compared to other 2 Chainz songs, but give it a listen: it's not a waste of time.

Top 50 Arctic Monkeys' Tracks
Arctic Monkeys are very close to officially releasing their 5th album "AM" and to commemorate this, I have put my top 50 Arctic Monkeys tracks here. From many of those who have heard this album already, they have found it a masterpiece (I will not judge until I hear it) and have cemented Monkeys' place in history as one of the best bands that Britain has ever produced, never mind of this century. Anyway, without further ado...

50 Love Is A Laserquest
This is a track from the band's fourth album "Suck It And See" which can sound too similar to other tracks and slips into anonymity. Still a great love ballad.
49 Dance Little Liar
With its riffs and gloom, this is a hit with many fans who like that dark side to the band, taken from the band's third album "Humbug".48 Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But...
Taken from that memorable debut album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not". Loses some brownie points and is my least favourite track from the album due to its messy sound. Still, not exactly a bad track.47 That's When You're Wrong
The final song on the fourth album "Suck It And See" and it is quite a content number to finish a very LA-influenced album on.
46 Riot Van
Although the lyrics are pretty cool and very teenage-friendly, there's something lacking in this acoustic song that some of the band's other slow songs possess. Taken from "Whatever People Say I Am..."
45 D Is For Dangerous
A very shouty third track from the second album "Favourite Worst Nightmare". 10/10 for energy and vocals from drummer Matt Helders, however it's not a stand-out on the album.
44 The Jeweller's Hands
This ends the third album "Humbug" and is a very stand-out song for its psychedelic influences, however, the band haven't mastered the psych sound on this track.
43 Balaclava
Balaclava is some massive fun, but again quite messy like "Perhaps Vampires...". The highlight from this "Favourite Worst Nightmare" track is that cool drum solo beat near the end.
42 Brick By Brick
Probably the poorest lyrics from the band and the poorest single (but all the singles are pretty brilliant), yet this is great to watch live and is great fun. Quite a similar song to "D Is For Dangerous" and is taken from "Suck It And See"
41 Secret Door
This is a lovely track taken from "Humbug". Alex Turner croons "Fools on parade" like an absolute romantic.
40 The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala
Strange title name, but such a smooth, sedated song from "Suck It And See". There's not enough in this song to call it a great, just more like very good throwaway.
39 Reckless Serenade
With no real structure, this song can't be near the top 20, but that sort-of-chorus is very catchy and beautiful so it's not all bad.
38 Only Ones Who Knows
The intro is swooning and dreamy and is the second album's only real slow song, which makes it a nice change, but the instruments sometimes swamp the vocals.
37 Piledriver Waltz
The lyrics are nothing but brilliant on here: "You look like you've been for breakfast at the heartbreak hotel". Just lacks addiction.
36 Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured
More about nights out on this track from their debut album. A lot neater than "Perhaps Vampires..." but is quite plain.
35 Potion Approaching
Potion Approaching starts with a total brilliant riff from Jamie Cook and then thrashing drums from Helders. Again quite like "Only Ones Who Knew", it's swamped by instruments. However, it is addictive.
34 Leave Before The Lights Come On
Some people will be fuming that this is so far down the order, but I have a reason. Although the verses are brilliant, the chorus is a bit of an anti-climax and that bridge lacks anything creative or exciting. The only thing that brings this back up is the thrashing at the end with guitars and drums.
33 The View From The Afternoon
Another one which is controversially low down. Pretty much the same explanation as the last song. There is something there that isn't lyrically clever and relies heavily on instruments.
32 Old Yellow Bricks
That intro is hard to forget and the comparisons to The Wizard of Oz somehow work, the lyrics are smart and witty, something isn't there however on this song.
31 Fake Tales Of San Francisco
Another fan favourite here which doesn't get played too much live - and I can see why. Sure, fans love it. Why wouldn't they? It has lyrics of hitting out at phony rock stars and during the verses, the guitar is memorable, however, like many songs on the debut album, it relies on instruments to bring the song to life.
30 All My Own Stunts
That intro and ending along with the moody, but amazing way that Turner sings "Allll my owwnnn stuuuuntss" is enough to squeeze this song inside the top 30.
29 Pretty Visitors
The organ intro sets the dark scene for this "Humbug" track. The chorus is incredible live as it's a right good sing-a-long.
28 Black Treacle
A lot of killer riffs on this track. With a great bridge, which tends to be a song's weak point as well as a cool chorus, it deserves to be top 30.
27 You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Staring Straight At Me
That sentence of a title is very catchy and the beat is even more so. One of the more fun tracks on "Whatever People Say I Am..".
26 This House Is A Circus
This House Is A Circus is one of the tracks on "Favourite Worst Nightmare" that is really quick, but works. The chorus is big and picks up to the band singing together.
25 Evil Twin
This single (from no album by the way) was brought out around the same time as heavy track R U Mine? and focuses on screeching guitars and a decent chorus. It's fun and really showed what direction Monkeys were going in.
24 Still Take You Home
This track is about Turner thinking some girl is pretty ugly (can't see through your fake tan) but she will do. Just like this this track - not the best, but you'll still listen to it happily.
23 A Certain Romance
I have never been a huge fan of this track, even though I want to be. However, that high note played at the start is one of Arctic Monkeys' best moments and so sits respectively at 23.
22 Dangerous Animals
Although to many this song seems too messy, I can't help but think it works. This is one of the best off of that marmite album "Humbug".
21 From The Ritz To The Rubble
This is where it starts to get difficult. I put this song just outside the top 20 because of of the chorus - nothing really wrong about it, but compared to other songs, there's some room for improvement.
20 Library Pictures
This is a strange song from the fourth album "Suck It And See" as the track is very "first or second album-sounding" with its fast pace and monstrous guitars.
19 When The Sun Goes Down
Another tune that I have never really got is this. I think it's still a great song, especially live, but there's so many songs that are underrated compared to this smash hit.
18 Teddy Picker
That opening riff as well as the guitar solo is something else. Although a basic song, they perfect it to make it swagger a bit.
17 The Bad Thing
From listening to Arctic Monkeys, no one talks about this cracking tune. The Bad Thing hides away in the late tracks of "Favourite Worst Nightmare" and has the cool sound of Miles Kane mixed with something very 60's swing.
16 My Propeller
This is the opener to "Humbug". Something very trippy and moody and swinging and brilliant. A song that you can listen to in any mood really. With its darker, lower guitar riffs, it paved a new direction for Arctic Monkeys.
15 Do Me A Favour
Considered one of the best songs never to be released by the band, Do Me A Favour is a crowd pleaser at concerts and mixes between arm-swaying and mosh-pitting.
14 Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?
Awaiting release on the new album "AM", it mixes hip-hop beats with classic rock. Nick O'Malley and Matt Helders help out Turner on vocals as well. Not only a brilliant title name, but a song that again showed what Arctic Monkeys could do.
13 Suck It And See
From the eponymous album, this is one cool piece of American rock, with Turner soothing his words to a song with great guitar sounds.
12 Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair
It has to include the most baffling lyrics, but this song has everything: guitar screeching, falsettos, a heavy chorus and a fairly quiet use in choruses. Yass.
11 Fluorescent Adolescent
One of the most famous songs from the band and if you don't know it, you'll hear it on The Inbetweeners all the time. This song shouldn't work, but it has became a classic and is such a unique song.
10 She's Thunderstorms
This is a ballad that can only be beaten by a couple of others. A song that is so loving that if you hate the lyrics, you have no soul. The chorus comes around with a thrash and then settles again wonderfully. You can't help but love a love song.
9 I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
"Don't believe the hype" was the first words muttered by Turner before he thrashed into what would become the band's first single and breakthrough track. Despite being overrated, it is still an absolute tune. The fact that a song like this can come on in a club and have everyone go more mental than the latest dance tune, you know that it has something magical about it.
8 Brianstorm
The drums are insane on this song, which can only be described as a fast-paced disco anthem which has so many brilliant moments in it. Whether it be the smacking of the drums whilst the other members of the band shout "Top marks for not trying" or that crazy intro which has to go down as the best one they have ever done, you can't help but love this.
7 Dancing Shoes
"GET ON YER DANCING SHOOS" starts off two and a half minutes of top-notch energy from the Sheffield lads as they not only bring out a fun side to them, they also bring about a sex-fueled side for the first time. One of their best quick songs.
6 Do I Wanna Know?
Turner sounds sleek on his new single from the new album, and no wonder. He sings about women constantly now and with a cool swagger he croons his way through Do I Wanna Know? whilst pelvic thrusting to the beat and singing "Crawling back to you..."
5 Mardy Bum
"Remember cuddles in the kitchen yeah? To get things off the ground" is one of the sweetest lyrics to have ever blessed my ears. Why does this non-single have over 9 million views on YouTube? Because so many people love it and so do they - it's still regularly in their set lists.
4 R U Mine?
This is the heaviest song that Monkeys have done to date and it's just mind-blowing. The guitar solos as well as them killer riffs are superb. Helders is present again with his falsettos and that guitar solo near the end is wonderful. Right from "I'm a puppet on a string" to that last riff, you know you haven't wasted a second listening to it.
3 505
505 starts with a very gloomy, organ-filled first minute and the song slowly picks up until in the last minute and a half, it just goes mental and the crowd absolutely love it. Probably the best thing about this "Favourite Worst Nightmare" end track is the appearance of Miles Kane who turns up a lot live to play with the band. Everyone loses their shit to this song and chaos occurs - and no wonder. This song has such a great effect over people and should be up in everyone's list of favourite Monkeys songs.
2 Crying Lightning
The bass at the start of this track creates a very gloomy, stormy (pardon the pun) theme to which Turner throws emotion and energy around wildly. The song picks up to a great climax and doesn't disappoint. The bridge is perfect as well, infact, there isn't much wrong with this song at all, except it's not Number 1....
1 Cornerstone
Although some will argue that Mardy Bum is the best Arctic Monkeys' ballad of all time, I have went with Cornerstone. That whirring guitar noise starts off 3 minutes of sheer romance and passion rolled into a song. It's a track full of beautiful lyrics: "I wandered over for a closer look, and kissed whoever was sitting there", "Tell me where's your hiding place?" among others. The instruments are amazing, the vocals are as best as you can get from Alex Turner and for a band who had just came off two fast-paced albums, this was a masterpiece to create such a perfect ballad.

Mumford and Sons-Hopeless Wanderer
I have been quite skeptical of folkies Mumford and Sons. After loving their debut album Sigh No More and completely changing the face of folk, I couldn't get enough of them. Then Sigh No More 2.0 came out, which is also known as Babel and I was unimpressed in the lack of originality of the album with only a few songs standing out. One of these is their new single Hopeless Wanderer. The tempo is like a rollercoaster and although near the end it has its classic Mumford banjo solo, there's something nice about this track that reminds you of that debut album. If you love the song, you will wet yourself watching the video which stars the likes of Ed Helms and Jason Sudeikis as the band members in comical roles. But anyway back to the song, Mumford may have struggled critically with the new album, but there's one thing that is certain - they know what are their best songs - and they are the singles that they release.

Fall Out Boy-Alone Together
I have always been a lover of Fall Out Boy, mainly because I was a young teenager who didn't fit in greatly and these guys were my answer. Even though I love them, I used to call them my guilty pleasure. This was until they made a comeback with their bold album name Save Rock and Roll and although they haven't done this exactly, they have done alright. They release their third single Alone Together which isn't as impressive as the other two singles, but nonetheless gets the job done. It's more throwaway than treasure, but there's no denying that there is a lot of energy into this song. The great thing is that I feel Fall Out Boy have earned respect in making more likable music, but have not dropped in quality. Not a memorable single, but it is still fun.

Miles Kane-Taking Over
2012 was a bit of a breakthrough year for Miles Kane. Even after appearing on that Last of the Shadow Puppets album with Alex Turner and releasing a debut solo album, he was only a sweetheart to many indie kids. However, his second album Don't Forget Who You Are is harder and not as innocent and naive as the first. The tunes have also matured in quality. Compare his new single Taking Over to Don't Forget Who You Are and Give Up and you have something else. Slower pace, not as much noise, but honestly, the track is just the best single on the album. Less is more in this situation and Kane has a real matured sound, with this song in particular, sounding like it could be an indie-rock classic. The man from The Wirral can only go up from here.

Arctic Monkeys-Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?
A lot of people have been ecstatic with the return of Sheffield's finest (sorry Pulp!) Arctic Monkeys - and they should be. The new album AM looks prosperous with all new fields being visited as the quartet continue to mix genres. After their single Do I Wanna Know? they release their second single Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? For your typical Monkeys fan who praises I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor and state that they became "shit" when Humbug was released, they might as well leave now because Why'd You Only Call Me...is something different. Alex Turner sings in falsetto over some funky beats as Matt Helders contributes with his high pitch. It is a rock song that has been successfully fused with hip-hop to create something really really cool. The song isn't difficult to interpret as the title is a huge give away: Turner keeps calling/texting a girl who he's having bad relations with, but only when he is high or drunk. Simple lyrics, yet totally effective with genius, laidback instruments. Personally, I cannot wait for the new album.

AlunaGeorge-You Know You Like It
To anyone in the UK who claims to have not heard of AlunaGeorge has either a) Been in music hibernation for the past 6 months or b) You're deaf. This is because their collaboration with garage newcomers Disclosure on the track White Noise was a superb summer anthem which was everywhere in the country, getting played just about everywhere. Now, AlunaGeorge have gained some mainstream attention, their new single You Know You Like It has became well played on the radio and it's easy to see why. The duo keep to their roots with their electro, yet add that fun pop sound that is still different from other pop artists, keeping both new and old fans happy. Aluna Francis has such a sweet voice. As she sings "What you wanna, what you gonna do?" you can't help but want to give her a big hug for being so damn cute. Anyway, I'm loving this and you should too. If you don't then you're a) Hibernating a lot without music or b) deaf.

Swim Deep-King City
Before a swarm of bloggers hit me with a screech of "this song has been out for ages", let me just explain. Since the release of their debut album Where the Heaven Are We, Swim Deep has decided to re-release their first single King City, probably due to the fact that in the past 6 months, the Birmingham band have started grabbing headlines and turning heads. Anyway, King City is a dreamy track with hints of britpop and a brilliant use of instruments - the drums are simple but are very important to the song and who can forget them keyboard synths? Adding a nice finishing touch to the chorus. Austin Williams groans through the first verse "I wanna be everything that I'm not/I wanna be rich, I wanna show off" showing his passion to be someone else and be successful. And with these words and this song, Williams might get one step closer to being rich and successful as his band of misfits grow better everyday.

Kanye West-Black Skinhead
I run out of superlatives when I talk about this song. Kanye West is back with a new album called Yeezus and Black Skinhead is a prime example of the raw talent and originality coming from the rapper in recent times. He is carrying hip-hop with his new material which very often pushes boundaries, just like Black Skinhead. The new single is daring, starting with some tribal drums and - strange as it seems - the sound of someone hyperventilating as backing instrument. West spits through the hook like the icon that he has become "I keep it 300, like the Romans/300 bitches, where the Trojans?" as he keeps using humourous, but intelligent lyrics. He then screams down the mic "And you know it, and you know it!". Kanye really shows his anger and rage in this song and its message comes through in the song. The rest of Yeezus might not be as perfect as this, but that is because Black Skinhead is up there with West's best ever. LISTEN.
