2012 July-September

What was supposed to be the "summer" turned into rain, rain and more rain. There were many music festivals- with Reading & Leeds Festival standing out a lot this year. July to September mainly consisted of sport, especially the Olympics.

July

The month kicked off with the European Championships Final where current holders Spain thrashed Italy 4-0 in Ukraine. Then, Britain were hit with heartbreak again when Scot Andy Murray made his first Wimbledon final, only to lose in 4 sets to Roger Federer. The Dark Knight Rises premiere in Aurora, Colorado is disrupted as 12 people are killed in a cinema and 57 others are injured by a gunman who plotted the massacre, describing himself as "The Joker". Rangers were officially demoted to the Third Division after votes to drop them to the bottom tier. In music, rock legends The Rolling Stones marked their 50th anniversary of playing their first show in The Marquee Club, London, whilst the next week, a duet between icons Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney was cut short after it breached the curfew of Hyde Park. In politics, Kim Jong-un is officially announced as the Supreme Leader of North Korea, despite being in control of the country for the past 8 months, and in other news, prime twat David Cameron   says that budget cuts will need to continue until the end of the decade. Bollocks. Back to sport, super mod and full-time legend cyclist Bradley Wiggins became the first man to win the Tour De France and the Olympics ceremony opens the Olympics (with the exception of the women's football). The ceremony includes Mr Bean playing the piano in humourous fashion, a dazzling theme devised by film director Danny Boyle, and finally, THE QUEEN JUMPS OUT A PLANE. To top off the month, Michael Phelps makes history by winning his 19th Olympic medal, a new record.

Reverting back to the Olympics, eight badminton players were charged for trying to throw matches to get a better seed. This was followed by British glory. Brit Nicola Adams became the first female boxer to win a Gold Medal in an Olympics and Andy Murray got revenge on Roger Federer by defeating him in the Olympic Final at Wimbledon, after last month's defeat at Wimbledon. Then came Super Saturday. This was when three gold medals came in Athletics in the one hour. First was Jessica Ennis who stormed to Heptathlon glory, moments before Greg Rutherford surprisingly won the long jump as he was speechless, then came the greatest distance runner in the world right now. Mo Farah tore up the field in the 10,000m to win. A week later he repeat this in the 5000m. Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt won the 100m and 200m double for back-to-back Olympics, as well as winning the relays for the last two Olympics. There were more record breakers in the Olympics when Kenyan middle distance runner David Rudisha broke the 800m record in style, with a basic sprint from start to finish. The Olympic Closing Ceremony was great, except when The Who shared the stage with the likes of Jessie J, ruining the ceremony slightly. Fabrice Muamba formally retired from football after his cardiac arrest in March, and 7-time Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong decides not to appeal against the decision of doping charges, leading to him being stripped of his titles. From Lance to Neil, as first man on the moon Neil Armstrong dies at the age of 82. The Paralympics opening ceremony commemorates the start of the 2012 games, with the likes of Oscar Pistorius and Davie Weir participating. Finally, three members of the feminist punk group Pussy Riot are jailed for two years, causing global outrage.

He has became the first male tennis player to win a Grand Slam since Fred Perry. The Paralympics comes to an end with a firework display and performances from the likes of Rihanna. The US Ambassador to Libya is killed in Benghazi, causing public outrage. Apple unveil the iPhone 5, and Europe win the Ryder Cup in dramatic style, with a great comeback to win 14.5-13.5 over USA in Illinois.
