After the disappointing Quantum of Solace, Bond fans were hoping for something special when Skyfall was released - and it was exhilarating. Daniel Craig yet again put in a top knotch performance and was helped by some great cast members like Javier Bardem as the antagonist Raoul Silva; and Judi Dench returning as M.
The plot begins as Bond and field agent/office worker Eve Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) are chasing down a NATO terrorist who has government files. As Bond and the man fight atop a train, Eve misses the hit and shoots Bond who falls into a river and is presumed dead. After presure from Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes) to retire, M takes a risk in reinstating Bond on a mission to recover the files from the terrorist, Patrice. After visiting Shanghai to find information from Patrice, he traces his boss to a casino in Macau where he meets Bond Girl Severine (Berenice Marlohe). She helps him meet her boss who is cyber-terrorist Raoul Silva, a former-M16 agent who was betrayed in order to save more agents from the Chinese. After capturing the villain, Silva goes missing, starting a panic around London and making the last hour great excitement.
The film had class, it had a perfect villain and showed a struggling Bond at a difficult stage in his life, leaving fans on a definite edge, with an unpredictable twist occurring in the tale a few times. My only problem was the short appearance of the Bond Girl, who only lasted 20 minutes in the film, leaving me and other viewers a little disappointed as she was a minor and token character. Overall though, the film was superb and was one of the best of the year, despite its minor flaws.
Rating: 9/10
Best Part: The tyranny of the antagonist, Raoul Silva.
Worst Part: Little sight of the Bond Girl.
