Pyschedelic quartet Django Django have had a year to remember. They broke through the difficult barrier of the music industry and are now tipped as ones to watch for the future. After rave reviews of the band's album (of the same name) they have released singles and their new one Life's A Beach has something a little different about it. Imagine a younger, more Scottish version of surf rock legends The Beach Boys. That is probably the best way to describe this song. They are the the next generation of experimentalists and I would imagine they would continue their weird and wonderful music.

Bat For Lashes-All Your Gold
Natasha Khan or as you may know her Bat For Lashes, has had a productive year, with a new album and now has a new single All Your Gold. The English singer-songwriter's new track has a folktronic sound to it, with tribal drums starting off the tune with a number of instruments (including bass guitar, keyboard and xylophone) all kicking in as the song progresses. Her voice is great, but to be frank her music does not thrill me in the slightest and is about as exciting as day-time TV. Sure, her music is different, but maybe it's so different that it becomes unappealing, despite the emotional and well written songs.
Best lyrics: Cos you’re a good man, ‘cos you’re a good man/I keep telling myself to just let go

Adele-Skyfall
Pop sensation Adele recently announced that she would be singing on the soundtrack for new James Bond film, Skyfall and the world exploded into breaking news. This week her aptly fitted song Skyfall will be released in time for the release of the Bond film. She has one of the best voices in the business, and this song really pushes her already amazing vocals to the limit, giving the London singer a Shirley Bassey inspired style. It's full of such sophistication and beauty, that it just about beats anything she has ever written and cementing her place as the voice of the 10's decade.
Best lyrics: Let the sky fall, when it crumbles/We will stand tall

Villagers-The Waves
Irish indie band Villagers have been relatively quiet since they become known with their debut album Becoming a Jackal. However, their new single The Waves has received rave reviews with a lot of publicity from the likes of NME. It has such a cool and delicate electro beat, with vocalist Conor O'Brien's clear voice, pronouncing every word with great care and accuracy. A ripping bassline comes in near the end and a repeated line finishes the song, making a decent track from the band, and earning some added recognition to their already improving popularity.

LIVE: Twin Atlantic
Glaswegian rockers Twin Atlantic kicked off their UK tour in their home town, playing The Barrowlands for the second time as a band. You would think that with The Killers rocking the SECC on the same date, that Twin would struggle to sell out the venue, yet the place was packing and the atmosphere was great. I will go into further detail afterwards.
Twin Atlantic started their support acts off with Paisley band, Carnivores. Full of energy, the hardcore rockers got the crowd going with tracks such as Lion Tamer and Scottish Football. They have a great sound, at times sounding like Enter Shikari minus the electronic sound. At times they also sounded a lot like top American band Rage Against the Machine and Nirvana. Front man Kenny Leckie, despite looking a bit like a man who enjoys watching Countdown, he goes crazy as the crowd react to his actions and do the same. The whole band by the end have tops off, thrashing their guitars everywhere and screaming down microphones as they finished a remarkable performance.
Now, for the second support act, there was a man called Charlie Simpson. Now if that name hasn't got you screaming and being all nostalgic, he was the singer/drummer of popular ex-pop rock band Busted. I'll give all you Busted fangirls a moment to calm down. He has changed since then. With his rock band Fightstar currently on hiatus, he has started a solo career which has a country-rock feel. Unfortunately, with the majority of the crowd still so hyped from Carnivores, Charlie was out-staged and out-classed by the rockers, with a few bobbing heads and mutters as Simpson played his set. Everyone was now impatient and waiting for the main act.
The fans sang in unison to Bohemian Rhapsody, a ritual that is played before every Twin Atlantic concert. A curtain covered the stage, hiding everything behind it. Riffs could be heard from their single Time For You to Stand Up as the crowd clapped together. The curtain fell to bright lights and revealed the band, led by Sam McTrusty.
After restarting the song, the band got off to a flying start as they warmed up the crowd. Apocalyptic Renegade and Lightspeed then came with their indie-rock sound keeping the crowd intrigued and excited. This was then followed by Dreamember which was closely followed by the screaming, heavy rock anthem The Ghost of Eddie where there were mosh pits galore. Things got calmer for a while with Human After All and then an acoustic and slower version of Vivarium hit, You're Turning Into John Wayne which gave everyone a moment to breathe. The next couple of songs were relatively quiet, being less known to the crowd in the form of Eight Days and Brothers & Sisters which made it's live performance that night. Then the nostalgic tunes came, starting off with classic explosive tune What Is Light? Where Is Laughter? before playing dreamy track Carribean War Syndrome. Twin Atlantic then returned to crooning song Edit Me starting a riot in the crowd with everyone going mental. This was followed by Wonder Sleeps Here and then McTrusty gave the fans a treat, with a new song called Sparkly Touch which will be shown below.
Coming into the closing stages the Glaswegians played first album track We Want Better, Man and then played their song A Guidance From Colour for the first time in two full years, much to the delight of fans of this song. The whole crowd bellowed the single from the eponymous album Free in which ended a magical night...until the encore. Everyone screamed as Sam, Barry, Ross and Craig returned to the stage. Sam started the introduction to The Beatles song All My Loving with Barry playing the cello, before mashing into fan favourite, Crash Land. The fans poured their hearts out for Yes, I Was Drunk with a shitload of headbanging. Finally, after Sam congratulated the crowd and thanked them for coming, the band finished with ultimate tune Make A Beast of Myself. It was such a great finish with everyone moving energetically and belting out the lyrics. The Barrowlands may be a little harassing to get into without ID and having metal detectors, but to watch one of the best rock bands to every come from Scotland, it's worth every penny.

Steps-Light Up the World
Cheesy pop group Steps reunited earlier this year, and this is the moment I dreaded - reviewing a Steps single. Unfortunately as the time has come, I must tell you all about their new single Light Up the World. It's not as appalling as the likes of Tragedy or Stomp, but isn't quality music at all. It is a poor return to the music business from the group (not that I expected it to be a good one obviously). It has that horrible X-Factor-Christmas-number-one feeling, with them horrible cheesy, emotional sounding instruments in the background, making this hard to listen to never mind like.

Naughty Boy feat. Emeli Sande-Wonder
Producer and rapper Naughty Boy must have been seeing stars when Emeli Sande agreed to collaborate with the Watford musician for the SECOND time after he produced her number 2 hit Heaven. Although he doesn't rap on his new track Wonder, he contributes enough with his music and lets Sande do the singing on this. Such a great dance tune, it's none of this generic rubbish. It has a Calvin Harris feel to it, and I'm going to tip this as one of the best dance tracks of the Autumn. Well done Naughty Boy, well done Emeli Sande. Both of them together have made this an addictive song and this surely will be a hit.

Maxsta-Pop Off
London grime artist and MC Maxsta is back after his single I Wanna Rock was greeted with mixed reviews, as is the new boy's new song Pop Off. It's so ridiculous and annoying that you want to hate it, but just like Sam and the Womp's single Bom Bom Bom, it is incredibly catchy. It's full of buzzing hooks and the background tune makes it easy to listen to. Lyrically, it isn't great. They aren't too exciting and they don't create any impact until the end of the chorus which is a poor move from Maxsta. But yeah, this is so annoying, yet it's awesome...

JLS-Hottest Girl In the World
JLS may be one of the hottest groups in the UK right now, but do you know what's not very hot? Their new single Hottest Girl in the World. We heard their atrocious live debut of the song on the X-Factor and it was unremarkably poor. Luckily, it sounds slightly better in the studio (as you would expect) and it seems like the boys are huge fans of Justin Timberlake, because they are trying their utmost hardest to be him, even sounding like a tribute act in this track. Nothing creative about this song, it's just bland and rather terrible. The only positive thing is IT IS NOT A DANCE TRACK THANK GOD.
Best Lyrics: Well at one point they actually said the world "toast" and I was pretty hungry so that is probably my favourite bit.

Jessie Ware-Night Light
New pop sensation Jessie Ware must feel on top of the world: She has a Mercury nomination, she's tipped as one of the best breakthrough acts of 2012 and she's gained bundles of fans with her romantic pop. Yes, I have found a pop act that is tolerable and talented. Already being praised by the likes of NME and Q, she releases her new single Night Light this week. The dark-pop is far from the dance music that dominates the charts today, instead it's full of slick, slow basslines and twinkling piano chords. The chorus is easy to learn and is definitely one to sing along to. She IS the next big thing.
Best lyrics: You’ll be my night light, there when I go to sleep, You’ll be my night light, baby when I dream.

Jay Sean-So High
Yeah, Jay Sean is that guy with the song that goes like "Baby are you down down down down down". Unfortunately his new single So High is far from as addictive as that. It's just really bad dance music that might as well be a broken record. His new single is absolutely irritating and repetitive. At one part I thought my computer was broke because of the weird noises blasting out of it. Jay Sean is done a lot better than this and hopefully this can go behind him.

The Enemy-This Is Real
They may never return to the We'll Live and Die In These Towns days, but The Enemy's new song is starting to show a turn in fortune for the Coventry band with their single This Is Real. Vocalist Tom Clarke has more of a Johnny Rotten voice near the end of the song, and this song shows a great turnaround for the indie band. The thrashing drums and big strums of guitars make the song end on a triumphant note. Sounds great, but isn't very different. Although, it is still good to see them going back to good music.
Best lyrics: Our backs against the wall/You and me against it all/I'll always lie awake/Until my backbone breaks

Taken 2
The original Taken film was in some ways one of the best action films of the past 5 years, but I was always uneasy about making a sequel to it. Unfortunately, Taken 2 was always going to have a tough time trying to outdo it's predecessor, and it failed to live up to my expectations.
The film is based on an Albanian family's revenge on Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) after he killed his daughter's kidnapper (in reference to the first film). Their original plan is to kidnap him, but manages to kidnap his ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) as well, as they try to rekindle their relationship in a family trip to Istanbul. Bryan has to partially rely on his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) to save both her mother and father's lives.
The film is fun and really great if you haven't watched the first one, full of action and enough quick-moving cameras to make you go dizzy, as well as the film showing Bryan's clever side. There are parts of the film that are light-hearted and funny, but there are a few flaws in this film.
If you have watched the first one, you know what is going to happen. With the sequel low on fresh ideas, a lot of parts have been repeated and slightly tweaked so that the untrained eye doesn't notice them too much. The fact it was a 12A in the UK didn't help either. The first film was an 18 and full of violence and prostitution, yet they changed the sequel to aim at a younger crowd, in which doing that, lost a lot of action and made it difficult for a good storyline with half of the film made up of brainless car chases. Finally, the most annoying part of all was the ending. I won't give it away, but I'll warn you, it isn't like the Godfather or Scarface, it's incredibly disappointing and underwhelming. If they had ended on that scene, maybe I would have viewed this film in a different way, but it then ends on a cheesy family day out at a cafe for a couple of milkshakes. Eugh.
No doubt this film will make a ton as it is part of a franchise, but it has no original ideas and I might as well have watched the first one for an hour and a half.
Best Part: Probably the bit where his daughter is at the pool.

Dan Le Sac feat. Merz-Long Night of Life
Electronic/Hip-Hop artist dan le sac has taken a break from his duo with Scroobius Pip to work on a solo album, which includes his new single Long Night of Life which features multi-instrumentalist Merz. Hate me if you may, but I cannot get my head around this. There's nothing about this song that excites me in any way, it's a bit like a rip off of The xx, with the song only coming to life in the second half. It ends on a high and sounds almost flawless, but the first half of the song is full of droning and sheer boring beats, with no real hooks. dan le sac should have probably stuck to what he's good at.

Bastille-Flaws
Bastille have appeared on this blog before with their marvelous song Bad Blood which was an absolute work of art. They return with their follow-up single Flaws. Although this is quite a repetitive song and doesn't live up to Bad Blood, it is still a great tune, just like the band's previous singles. The only part of this song that betters the first single is the voice, which is pushed to the limit, especially during the chorus where lead vocalist Dan Smith manages to still stand out over a whizzing keyboard and banging drums as he sings:
You have always worn your flaws upon your sleeve
And I have always buried them deep beneath the ground
Bastille have kept consistent with their new single, although Bad Blood triumphs over it, this is by no means a poor song. It should definitely be listened to.

Amy MacDonald-4th of July
Yes it is Amy MacDonald. You know, that girl who sung Mr Rock and Roll? Well she is no longer a predictable folk singer (no different from the likes of Newton Faulkner) as she has a new twist to her music, which is shown in her new single 4th of July. There's a slick rock sound in this song, yet McDonald manages to keep her folk image intact with a heavier use of drums and guitar and a stronger voice from the Scottish songwriter. There's something about this song that sounds so different that it's hard to dislike, being light years away from This Is the Life. Radio 1 DJ's are raving about this, so I thought all you should too. Exciting new work from her.

Rebecca Ferguson-Backtrack
She has the soulful voice gifted by angels, and Rebecca Ferguson shows everyone that runners-up on TV singing contest X Factor are just as good as the winners. She joins the likes of JLS, Olly Murs, Diana Vickers and One Direction as successful non-winners who haven't been forced to take a certain path. Although her first single Nothing's Real But Love was amazing, she sounded too plain like she was on The X Factor. However, this all changed with her new single Backtrack which was a risk worth taking for Ferguson, showing another side to her. Without losing the important voice, she has made a pop song that can be enjoyed by just about everyone apart from them hipsters. Anyway, this single cannot be labelled "depressing" or "boring" as she has done something many have failed to do - make a soul song appeal to everyone young and old, girl or boy, goth or ned/chav, and she definitely has the talent.

Pet Shop Boys-Leaving
Electronic duo Pet Shop Boys may be slowly fading from their most popular days, but the music has hardly dropped in standard. They release their new single Leaving this week and it has a relaxed theme to it. It is no way spectacular, but it's not worth slagging off and damning it. Not much to say about this song really, fairly average, harmless and normal.

Michel Telo-Ai Se Eu Te Pego
Here's a little Latin music from Brazilian country singer-songwriter, Michel Telo. He releases the ever universally popular single Ai Se Eu Te Pego in the UK today, and although I'm not a great fan of music that I cannot understand, there's something nice about this song. The accordion playing, the romantic (I guess) singing from Telo and the cool drum beat. No wonder women love this guy, he has a catchy song and talks about love. Seeing how this song has went viral, it shows its success and the ever-growing popularity of music we simply cannot translate.

Marina & The Diamonds-How To Be A Heartbreaker
The dancy-pop music of Marina Diamandis is often inconsistent. Primadonna was a hit, but then follow-up song Power & Control was disastrous, so I was very unsure what to think of her new song How To Be A Heartbreaker. It's somewhere in between. The lyrics are pretty simple, the vocals are good and the dance music is adequate. The chorus should win people over. It's annoyingly catchy and would fare well at a party. Marina sure knows how to make the occasional tune.

Sinister
After being disappointed by the predictable film The Possession, I was hoping the latest horror craze Sinister would frighten me. I was not let down.
This fresh thriller is about a true-crime novelist Ellison (Ethan Hawke) who moves his family into a house, which previously belonged to a murdered family, doing this for inspiration and investigation into his next great book. Apparently in the previous family there were five members, four being mysteriously hanged and a little girl going missing in which is thought to have been child abduction. After finding a box of home movies and a projector he watches the reels and to his horror finds these innocent home movies are really video recordings of gruesome deaths suffered by families. The further Ellison investigates he starts to find links between the deaths and who is responsible for them.
This is undoubtedly creepy for the first hour, creating a similar theme to The Shining, with a thrilling and mysterious opening half hour, but after this first hour, the film goes downhill. Sure, a horror/thriller should have "jumpy bits" but the second half of the film ridiculously overuses them. To what could have been an incredibly good film, the obvious, predictable horror lets it down. Even if I did jump out of my skin a couple of times, I knew when the scares were coming. The acting of Ellison's wife (Juliet Rylance) is also a little below par, being quite a 1 dimensional character.
But overall, Sinister is a very creepy, scary film and despite its flaws, creates an eerie atmosphere and is good fun. Worth watching and although it doesn't live up to horror of the year, it's certainly something different.

Nas feat. Amy Winehouse-Cherry Wine
As much as a posthumous Amy Winehouse song sounds about as great as a kick to the testicular area, it works in this situation. So the great soul singer teams up from beyond the grave with iconic rapper Nas on his new single Cherry Wine. It's such an innocent song, reminding us of the times were Winehouse wasn't troubled by drugs and when she made some great songs. Nas raps about his ideal girl with lyrics like
She loves art, she ride out with me on my music tour
She like the herb's natural medicine
She cooking good
She tell me everything is cool when it ain't looking good
It's one of the better songs of the week to be fair. Just such a chilled song, which is the best posthumous track since Otis.

Lawson-Taking Over Me
For all of you who don't know, Lawson are basically the band version of The Wanted. For those who argue, Lawson are a boy band and The Wanted are a boy group. Anyway, the boys have a new single Taking Over Me. It's pretty good, with it's genuine music, and great voices from the band. The only poor thing about this song is it's too similar to quite a lot of music these days. Boy groups/bands make a living off talking about love, and the only unique thing about Lawson is that they play their own instruments. Apart from this it's just another song about boy meets girl, falls in love junk. Still a good effort from the band who are growing ever more popular.

Gossip-Get A Job
Indie trashers Gossip have returned after a couple of years of no music, their new album has received mixed reviews, as has their new single Get A Job. The likelihood of the band reaching the almighty heights of their rioting single Standing In the Way of Control again is going to be a difficult task. Beth Ditto has turned into a soft voiced, sweet talking Lady Gaga wannabe, before belting out a chorus full of half-rate lyrics that are hardly inspiring. They look like they will fail to emulate the success of their first album, such a shame from what could have been an incredible band.

Calvin Harris feat. Florence Welch-Sweet Nothing
Scottish DJ Calvin Harris has yet again teamed up with eccentric nature-loving Florence Welch from Florence + The Machine on his new single Sweet Nothing. Flo as usual leaves goosebumps with her beautiful voice, but it is not Harris' best work. It is too similar to previous single We'll Be Coming Back and lacks real originality, only being exceptional due to the collaboration with such a great artist. Love Calvin Harris, I'm just not the biggest fan of this song despite it's positive aspects.

Keane-Disconnected
Keane have been criticised as a wannabe rock band who are too posh for rock and have hardly made a solid song since their album Under the Iron Sea. With their previous album being a little poor, their new single Disconnected could not disappoint, and it hasn't - but it certainly isn't anywhere near what Keane used to be. There's no real WOW about this song and it's not any different from their earlier material which makes it quite a boring piece to listen to. Is the track good? Yeah. Is it worth listening to? Not really, it's just too similar to their music to really love.

King Charles-Bam Bam
The curly haired, curly-moustached folk musician's single Bam Bam is quite great. It was released earlier in the summer, but a re-release in the Autumn could benefit King Charles. The track is quick, fun and incredibly catchy. His vocals are brilliant, but this is far from his best material. It's neither sophisticated nor great lyrics as well as being a bit irritating, but it's entertaining and sounds great for at least the first couple of listens. He's one for the future.

LIVE PERFORMANCE: Spector
Last night, indie-pop newbies Spector played the tiny venue of Oran Mor in Glasgow, and it being a 3 mile journey from Central Station, I was going to be disappointed if it was anything shorter than amazing - and I was not let down. The low profile underground hall pulled off one of their best gigs of the year with three great acts.
The first band to play were West Midlands pop rockers Swim Deep. Frontman Austin was armed with an odd-shaped tambourine and belting out the lyrics; on bass is Cavan (who's unique haircut sums up how different the band are) who calmly strolled through the set without error; other guitarist Higgy sported a moody look, with his Kurt Cobain-esque hair covering his face and ripped jeans, and just like his band mates failed to slip up; and finally one of the greatest things about this performance was the drumming of Zach which was quite something which added more of a grunge sound to their pretty sedated music. They announced that their new song Honey was going to be played and was received quite well, but King City is their best. Starting with a bassline similar to The Vaccines' single All In White, it soon turned into a favourite for many of the neutral fans in the crowd and charming them with their awkward humour. They should be pleased with the performance overall, as they were well liked by the fans. We even managed a picture with part-time lead vocalist, part-time tambourine enthusiast, Austin (as shown above). Meanwhile, the boys from Spector stood in the crowd and watched their support acts.
The second support act were Splashh (Yes appropriately put beside Swim Deep), a four-piece grunge rock band from London. Although they were not as lovable as Swim Deep, they were musically better than their fellow support act last night. The brilliant named singer Toto Vivian had a raw sound in his voice, especially on their song Need It. Joking that they were playing a new song called "Spector" as his bandmates laughed along, they finished on a cracking note. I had to point out that bass guitarist Thomas Beal, looking like he put together a bad Freddie Krueger Halloween costume with his stripy T-shirt and black hat, was a lot more lively and moved about more than the boys from Swim Deep and had some notable moments, as did guitarist Sasha Carlson and drummer Jacob Moore, who played their part in making their performance well worthy of the round of applause that they received. It was now time for Spector.

Screams from girls echoed the venue, men were roaring with applause, and Fred, Jed, Chris, Tom and Danny took to the stage. After a minute of charming the crowd, frontman Fred McPherson led the band into a thunderous rendition of Friday Night, Don't Ever Let It End before calming it down slightly with their poppy love song Twenty Nothing. By now, all eyes were on Fred and his quirky moments, such as his witty humour, the fixing of his spectacles, taking photos on his Blackberry and from time to time, combing his perfect comb-over back into position. The tempo yet again slowed down with their well-known synth-pop tune Grey Shirt and Tie sending the crowd into a mellow state as they happily swayed to the keyboard from Jed Cullen. Then came what Fred quoted "The song that made us". Yes that's right - What You Wanted. The bass played by Tom Shickle and the synth again by Jed stood out a lot here as Fred's vocals were giving a bit of a break as those around him took care of the song. Guitarist Chris Burman then teased the audience with a little riff from one of their tracks before Fred boldly proclaims "We'll see who has really bought our album" as their album opener True Love (For Now) was belted out from all sides of the stage making the crowd go crazy. Fred then confessed that the next song was emotional and he could remember it being wrote on a Thursday night. It was the album's slow song Lay Low. Almost ballad-like, the whole crowd were singing along waving their arms in the air. Then there's a pause. Then Fred announces he's got a text message to the amusement of the crowd. After a couple of awkward seconds he erupts into song with a triumphant sound winning over all the doubters. Fan favourite Celestine created mosh pits and had the audience jumping around like lunatics screaming "Keep the past in the past and notice me tonight". Fred yet again interacts with the crowd asking who's ever been in love and following up with "Who's ever been heartbroken?" which the crowd cheer in agreement. He then goes on to tell Glasgow about how this song had been wrote after he was fed up of watching Jeremy Kyle on weekdays and drinking endless ciders. He later reveals that this is the first time they play No Adventure live, yet it sounds tremendous. Grim Reefer keeps the fans singing before Fred teases the crowd again by asking "What begins with "Che?" and starts singing the chorus to hit Chevy Thunder with the fans. This is the best received song of the night as the crowd begins to go wild, with arms flying in all directions and now-hoarse voices. As they walk off stage the crowd start to sing "You know I'll never fade away" repeatedly asking for an encore for the song Never Fade Away. When the band come back on and play the ultimate track on their album, Enjoy It While It Lasts the crowd romantically join in to end a perfect ending to a night where Fred says,
"I want you to do two things for me. 1. Put up your left hand. 2. Put up your left hand. Now bring them together until they make a sound and do it at the same time as me through this next song" before joking, "This will be the safest clap you'll get tonight".
Overall, it was a fantastic night full of jokes, banter, interaction and most important, great music. One of the best gigs I've attended.

Conor Maynard feat. Ne-Yo - Turn Around
He's been dubbed "The UK's answer to Justin Bieber" and there is not much to compare him to the Canadian superstar. Also, Connor Maynard hasn't made a great impact in Britain, apparently he's not as attractive and hasn't made a big collaboration - until now. R'n'B sensation Ne-Yo has teamed up with the Brighton lad on his new track Turn Around. Full of dance hooks and good vocals, without the horrible cheesy material from his first two singles. Not much a fan of the lad, but this is a tune.

Walk the Moon-Anna Sun
Walk the Moon remind me of an American Two Door Cinema Club, with fast guitar dominating a subtle snare drum in their new single Anna Sun. The pop-rockers are winning many fans with their riveting and upbeat music, as well as supporting acts such as Panic! At the Disco and Weezer, as well as touring with fun. this Autumn. Anyway, Anna Sun is enjoyable, full of riffs and has a chorus that is planted in your head:
What do you know? this house is falling apart
What can I say? this house is falling apart
So if you love a little indie rock music, then this Ohio band are some harmless fun, not the best, but definitely enjoyable.

Unicorn Kid-Need U
Scottish DJ Unicorn Kid has been lurking around the shadows of breaking through in music for the past year or so, and new bouncy rave tune Need U is sure to be a hit in clubs. With a hint of trance music, this sure to be a great anthem in clubbing destinations, especially Ibiza. However, I'm put off by this by my past. As a young pre-teen, rave tunes were a daily occurrence and I cannot help but think of the embarrassing artists who would be linked with Unicorn Kid's style. The difference between them though is that Unicorn Kid's songs have a touch of sophistication and are more than just a barrel of noise. Not exactly my cup of tea, but will surely be a favourite for ravers.

Taylor Swift-We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
It's been all over the radio, and The Vaccines have covered this song, so Taylor Swift's most recent song We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together has made a lot of publicity. I do have so much love for this song. It's cool, her voice is amazing, and it just sticks in the head on repeat. But there's where the big problem lies, it's so captivating and stuck in the mind that it gets annoying. It is effectively the next Sexy and I Know It or Call Me Maybe. However, I love Taylor and her unique music, which has made country music popular. Hope the rest of the new album is as good as this, because if it is, we are in for a treat.

Red Hot Chili Peppers-Never Is A Long Time/Love Of Your Life
Yes, once again Red Hot Chili Peppers once again have a double whammy for us in the shape of their two new singles- Never Is A Long Time and Love Of Your Life. We'll start off with Never Is A Long Time. RHCP do what they do best, and that is funk rock. As most of their songs are about love, this one is no exception, yet Keidis doesn't sing about love the same way as The Wanted or One Direction do with lyrics like
"You are, you are the star within
The far, the far, the far away
The law that caused it all to stay"
It's above average music, that yet again exceeds expectations and the thought that RHCP are finished, when really, there music is just as good as it's always been.
Rating:6/10

Now, the second track. This is called Love Of Your Life, which uses similar chords as their great song Snow. Yet another love song (surprise, surprise), with a weaker chorus than Never Is A Long Time, but is better played with crooning guitar sounds and has a cooler feel to it, being more soul than funk. However it is still one of the poorer songs that I've heard from RHCP recently due to that poor chorus, but it doesn't fall below average, showing good consistency from the Californian rock veterans.

One Direction-Live While We're Young
Love or hate One Direction, you have to admit that they are a very popular and successful group, but, the music just doesn't change. I am talking about new single Live While We're Young. Sure, it's a song that you cannot help but tap your foot to, but really, is it anything diverse to what they've already done? The answer is simply no. Listen to the structure of this song, and then their debut single What Makes You Beautiful. Acoustic guitar intro, talk about love, have a great climax towards the chorus and a heartfelt bridge. Yawn. The beat is addictive, yet the lyrics in the chorus are pretty dire. Every directioner will worship this song and fans of the group will love it too, but to a neutral, it just doesn't work and it's pretty clear that 1D only have one direction.

The Campaign
Both Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis star in some of the best comedies of the 21st century, and now two stars have teamed up to create a film about an election for congressman.
The plot starts with current North Carolina district 14 congressman, Cam Brady (Ferrell) - a sleazy, politician who does anything to win, goes unopposed in the election year. However, after a public gaffe, a couple of billionaires (Dan Akroyd and John Lithgow) decide to put a candidate up to oppose Brady's candidacy. This is found in the shape of timid, friendly, slightly camp family man Marty Huggins (Galifianakis) the director of the local tourism office. After an embarrassing start in the election campaign, the billionaires hire a tough campaign manager to help Marty and after a few trash talks, speeches and baby punches, the two go into election day fairly even.
The poor thing about The Campaign is that it lacks great jokes. It has a bunch of funny moments, but not many are very memorable or hilarious. However, Galifianakis' ability of not talking and being funny just by the way he acts helped to make this film funny. One disappointment about this film is the fact that Ferrell plays such a nasty character, which changes from his usual randomness. I mean, sure he played Mugatu in Zoolander, but you couldn't take him seriously. His usual quirkiness wasn't present and his humour wasn't the same unfortunately. To sum up, there isn't enough laugh out loud moments to make this a classic, and with the Presidential Election coming up, I think everybody expected more from this film. Average and they were saved by the leading cast.

Mika-Celebrate
Yes the high-pitched chipmunk that is Mika is back with a new single, and as much as he is annoying and excruciating painful to listen to, the new song isn't as poor as we all thought it would be. Although the chorus irritatingly stays in your head longer than Sam and the Womp, Mika's new single Celebrate has a cool electro-funk sound to it. The beat is actually quite relaxing, and there's no shrieks from the Beirut-born singer. As much as he is as annoying as the High School Musical cast doing a duet with One Direction, I have to give him this for at least being listenable. Well apart from that last 20 seconds of mashed up music that ruins the overall quality of Celebrate. Congratulations Mika, you are no longer unlistenable, unlike that second album. Really what the fuck was We Are Golden?

Lower Than Atlantis-Love Someone Else
Since the break up of Fall Out Boy, many British punk-pop bands have been trying to emulate the originals. The likes of You Me At Six and Kids In Glass Houses have done a decent job, winning fans and changing their style as well, however, Lower Than Atlantis sound like a tribute Fall Out Boy band, except with an obvious English accent. I mean come on to fuck, the word "eye" comes out like "oy". Anyway, enough slagging the band for their strange singing accents, they have a touch of Foo Fighters as well as FOB in their new single Love Someone Else which is full of crashing, thumping drums and cool guitar crunches, but yet again doesn't show any real originality. Nostalgic punk fans may love these guys, but when (if) the likes of Fall Out Boy and Jimmy Eat World make a return they'll fade away.

Richard Hawley-Seek It
Former Britpop, now country music artist, Richard Hawley returns with his single Seek It. To be honest the song is a bit like sliced ham - there's nothing bad about it, but there's nothing that great about it either. Just a romantic country song, not much to say about it but it's more average than a Hot Chip album. It's a little, meh. It's a bit of a drop from Blur to country music, and doesn't seem to work that well.

Flo Rida-I Cry
Flo Rida hasn't had a great track since Low which was a few years ago, and since then we have been greeted with second-fiddle rubbish (like a review from last week). That is until now, where his newest song I Cry is getting rave reviews. Whether you think the verses are great or not, the chorus is really dance filled and catchy, and this song really is meaningful, with it based around his childhood struggles. Although I've already said it, the chorus is sublime and more songs like this and Flo Rida won't be viewed as an artist who is obsessed with chucking sexual innuendos into his songs. We can only pray.

Ellie Goulding-Anything Can Happen
Ah, you can't beat a pretty blonde girl who has the voice of an angel. Ellie Goulding has returned with her single Anything Can Happen from her up and coming album, Halcyon. The Starry Eyed-star's new track is a little bit folk, with bursts of electropop in it. Although the chorus is mainly just a weird noise, there's something gorgeous about this song. The bridge really shows how strong Ellie's voice is and how much soul is put into it. The song is catchy, electro and beautiful. Well done Ellie, hopefully this will not go unnoticed like Lights did.

Drake feat. Rick Ross-Lord Knows
From the man who brought you the most annoying phrase in the world that is YOLO, comes Lord Knows. American R&B artist Drake has collaborated with rapper Rick Ross on this track, and despite being overshadowed by the great rappers, he does a competent job on this single. Despite being so overshadowed and criticised, he is still good ol' egotastic Drake who talks himself up more than Kanye West with cocky lyrics like "I'm a descendant of either Marley or Hendrix" which doesn't do him many favours for such an idiotic comparison. However, lyrics aside, this song is ain't that bad. Both Drake and Rick Ross make a decent rap and the background vocals are lovely as well, making a good contribution to the song. He may be overrated, by this song is actually worth a listen.

Dog Is Dead-Talk Through the Night
If you have a decent memory you will certainly remember Dog Is Dead from one of my previous blog entries with their summery-pop track, Glockenspiel Song. Their Mumford and Sons similarity stops there, as their brand new single Talk Through the Night is a step in the right direction for the boys. It is slower, but has a good rock edge to it, with a soft guitar riff and a touch of Vampire Weekend's slower work. Although this is a soft rock song, Dog Is Dead still manage to stay close enough to their original indie pop, but this song has shown what Dog Is Dead could become, and I really expect them to move up the set lists at festivals next year.

Alt-J - Something Good
With a Mercury nomination and viewed as one of the best newcomers of 2012, Alt-J are doing better than they ever have before, so releasing a single fits nicely right now. The triangle loving hipsters have been associated with acts such as Bombay Bicycle Club and Radiohead, but yet make themselves different from these acts. Such a hipster thing to do.Their Bombay Bicycle Club-esque sound is relaxing and enjoyable, with easy-to-learn lyrics, which comes across well in their new and exciting single, Something Good. The introduction is full of tribal-like drums and a peaceful guitar twang. Lead vocalist, Joe Newman's voice is so soothing it could put a crying baby to sleep, as well as the more upbeat chorus that still manages to keep a harmonising sound. The wide variation of instruments is also a great touch, with pianos here and bass guitar there, making Something Good very, very unique. Just remember, that I heard of them before they became mainstream ok? Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to retreat back to organically growing my own food and being ironic in every way possible.
