Rebecca Ferguson shows everyone that runners-up on TV singing contest
X Factor are just as good as the winners. She joins the likes of
JLS, Olly Murs, Diana Vickers and
One Direction as successful non-winners who haven't been forced to take a certain path. Although her first single
Nothing's Real But Love was amazing, she sounded too plain like she was on The X Factor. However, this all changed with her new single
Backtrack which was a risk worth taking for Ferguson, showing another side to her. Without losing the important voice, she has made a pop song that can be enjoyed by just about everyone apart from them hipsters. Anyway, this single cannot be labelled "depressing" or "boring" as she has done something many have failed to do - make a soul song appeal to everyone young and old, girl or boy, goth or ned/chav, and she definitely has the talent.
